Overall:

A touch pricey but a great way to listen to MP3s on your hi-fi without using wires.

We reviewed the Slim Devices SliMP3 a while back and if you're looking for a way to play MP3s on your hi-fi, this device that plugs into your network is the way to do it. The SqueezeBox takes the SliMP3 idea and runs with it, introducing a handful of new features as well as a new design.

The SqueezeBox has the same green, two-line display as the SliMP3 but the black rubberised case is new, as are the digital audio and headphone sockets. There's still a socket for plugging the device into a network but the SqueezeBox has built-in Wi-Fi too, so you no longer need a network cable.

Before you can use the SqueezeBox, you have to install the SlimServer application on the PC that contains your music files - a wide variety of files, including MP3, are supported and the software runs on Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

All that remains is to connect it to your hi-fi and follow the short set-up wizard to connect it to your network. Then you can browse your music collection using the supplied remote control and play tracks in the same way as any good MP3 player.
