BT launches Broadband Anywhere

New service lets people connect to internet via broadband wherever they are

Andrea-Marie Vassou, Computeract!ve 08 May 2008

BT is giving its broadband customers the opportunity to access high-speed internet wherever they are.

Broadband Anywhere lets people access wireless internet, make calls and send texts using two new BT To Go handsets.

The HTC S620 and slider S710 smartphones both use the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 software and have a built-in camera, MP3 player and Qwerty keyboard.

According to BT, the handsets are automatically programmed to connect to one of the comany's 82,000 wireless hotspots to access the web and download up to 10MB of data a month for free.

People using hotspots not provided by BT will have to pay an unconfirmed fee.

Broadband Anywhere is open to customers on the Total Broadband Option 3 package. The lowest-priced deal will cost an extra £5 per month on top of the existing £7.95 a month.
